Paleomagnetic dating absolute

During my second year of college, I had my first existential crisis and a paranormal event changed my studies from science to business.

I still held my energy dreams, however, and in 1986, eight years after that first paranormal event, I had a second one that suddenly caused me to move up the coast from Los Angeles to Seattle, where I landed in the middle of what is arguably the greatest attempt yet made to bring alternative energy to the American marketplace.

By measuring the amount of radioactive decay of a radioactive isotope with a known half-life, geologists can establish the absolute age of the parent material.

A number of radioactive isotopes are used for this purpose, and depending on the rate of decay, are used for dating different geological periods.

U-Pb ages and zircon Th/U ratios from southern Gondwanan volcaniclastic and igneous rocks display a time transgressive trend that suggests advancing extensional magmatism associated with the unzipping of the Gondwanan margin from Australia to South America from ~340–250 Ma.

Today's so-called free energy is usually generated by harnessing the zero-point field, but not always, and our original effort was not trying to harness it.More slowly decaying isotopes are useful for longer periods of time, but less accurate in absolute years. With the exception of the radiocarbon method, most of these techniques are actually based on measuring an increase in the abundance of a radiogenic isotope, which is the decay-product of the radioactive parent isotope. They are produced by cosmic rays interacting with Earth materials. The data show when a surface, such as an alluvial fan, was created.

However, the advantage of paleomagnetic dating is that we can use it on different rocks from those susceptible to our ordinary methods of absolute dating while most radiometric methods usually require igneous rocks, paleomagnetism can be… continue reading »

Even with these assumption paleomagnetic dating is a useful tool for dating geologic objects. Due to its inherent ability to date essentially all rock types in a variety of geologic settings, paleomagnetic dating is particularly useful for areas with sparse or uncertain isotopic or biostratigraphic age constraints.… continue reading »
